The island of Kythera,or else called Chirigo , is situated south of Peloponese close to cape Malias and is the southest of the Ionian Islands. It’s rocky coasts form a lot of small, picturesque bays.
The land is mostly mountainous, though between the formed hills there are valleys that are being cultivated and many places with running waters. Kythera produces honey and olive oil of excellent quality. It has a thick vegetation and plenty of herbs can be found. A characteristical for the island plant is the semperviva, the yellow flower of which can be preserved for many years.
The island can be reached by sea from Piraeus and from the opposite coast of  Neapoly and Gythio and by plane with the daily flight departing from Athens.
The inhabitants of Kythera are hospitable, active and creative and with the help of the emigrant Kytherians have accomplished important achievements(hospital, nursing home, schools, harbour etc.). The emigrant Kyhterianstoday with the third generation exceed the population of 80.000 souls whichcreates a unique phenomenon as the permanent population corresponds to the1/20 of Kytherians living off the island.
